I recently added a new calculator to our web site it's on the left side towards the bottom. It's called the Commuting calculator. It allows you to put in your commuting miles the cost of gas per gallon and how long of a commute you have to work, and then it calculates the the daily and annual cost to go to work from home. I think it's particularly useful when looking for a new home. It put in prespective what that new house is really going to cost you. So when your riding around and you find a house that lets say is priced 20,000 less then the one that is closer to work, you can use the calculator plunk in the figures and see how good a deal you are really getting. In a number of cases the house closer to work although more money turned out to be the better deal. I know i have found it enlightening and many of my clients have as well. It, in many cases gives you cause for pause. Just another and really important factor to consider before you pull the trigger on that purchase. It is also good when you employer offers you a location transfer along with a few extra dollars for making the move. You may be wise to use the calculator to see if the extra dollars they are offering is even going to cover your additional commuting expense.
